For the Love of Books

Thursday, June 27, 2013

I am just thrilled to be here sharing a book that is for a little older crowd than my usual, but still a true treasure, for this month's For the Love of Books post.  Just this summer we were introduced to a little lady named Clementine.  She is smart, funny, patient, thoughtful, and always seems to be getting into trouble for not paying attention, when she IS paying attention.  Much like her kindergarten counterpart, Junie B. Jones, she has completely captured our hearts.  So much so, that every afternoon we've cuddled in together to read our way through the series.  Each book, written for children ages seven to ten, gives a little more depth into the cutie that is Clementine.  I've chosen to highlight the fourth book in the series of six, and counting, to share, with you all, today.
Clementine, Friend of the Week, written by Sara Pennypacker and illustrated by Marla Frazee, tells the story of third-grade Clementine's turn to tell her autobiography, be the line leader, collect the milk money, and feed the fish as "Friend of the Week".  Her classmates are also to write her thoughtful notes in a special booklet for her to keep.  Along with the help of her best friend, Margaret, she hashes out a series of plans to make sure that everyone has something nice to say; but just as she's getting ready to lay on her best one yet, her kitten goes missing.  The hunt for her beloved Moisturizer consumes her thoughts and time, and she forgets all about winning over her classmates.  Then, just when she needs her the most, it appears as though Margaret has let her down.  But has she?  And what will inspire her classmates' words the most?

Thanks so much for taking time out of your busy, summer schedules to stop by, friends!  Hugs!
